Although the weather has NJ looking like Purgatory, this week-old track from producer/singer Troy NoKA (who has worked with Frank Ocean, among others) has got me feeling great. Atmospheric and triumphant in a dusky, twilight way, “Right Now” marks an impressive debut for the previously behind-the-scenes NoKA. In addition to his own lyrics, the track takes Kings of Leon’s “Sex is On Fire” and turns it into progressive R&B, which I will actually listen to without wanting to rip my ears off. And the visuals, apparently “borrowed” from a French short film, are amazing. You rarely see a debut that is this holistically crafted, but I’m certainly not going to complain about it.
