They are unnecessarily lengthy, and the style in which they are written can only be described as self-indulgent and masturbatory. Maybe when the Nass is done trying too hard to be like the New Yorker it will be worth reading. The Prince's articles, however, are not meant to be pieces of literature. They are meant to be to-the-point and informative. It's absurd that the Nass wants to hold the Prince to the same standard that it can't even maintain itself.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3406509183596335885.post-82900779680036336862008-05-03T15:50:00.000-04:002008-05-03T15:50:00.000-04:00Procter Hall, the GC dining hall, has been closed ...Procter Hall, the GC dining hall, has been closed for events several times this year and we've never gotten any Paw Points either. The Prince articles this "PrinceWatch" critiques were terrible, as were many others they could have chosen. The Nass on the other hand tends to publish meaningful pieces that are often very well written to boot. '08 and '09 still remember that Frist used to offer late meal after breakfast. We also are probably more attached to the old U-Store than newer classes; we care more about grade deflation because it was newer and less established when we got here. We've also just had the experience of the administration consistently ignoring student concerns and failing to effect change. We've seen the failure of calendar reform...

I actually don't think the administration is doing a particularly terrible job, but I probably am significantly more cynical than your average freshman.Martha Vegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01864436577283711208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3406509183596335885.post-34313954163912058872008-04-30T18:11:00.000-04:002008-04-30T18:11:00.000-04:00Post more about admissions. Given that in this corner of the world the suffering of LGBT people is often more existential than physical (although LGBT people are and have been physically persecuted around the world), it seems that a symbolic show of solidarity is a potent tool in the long march towards that ultimate goal.

By being physically silent for the day, non-straight people and allies can not only call attention to the issue, but also show people living in silence that they have friends. Additionally, it shows intolerant people (dare I call them bigots?) that their views are not universally shared.

I agree with you that in the grand scheme of things, many shows of solidarity through depravation, especially things like the Oxfam dinner, are ultimately little more than self-indulgent token gestures. I don't agree with you that the Day of Silence is one of them.Martha Vegahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01864436577283711208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3406509183596335885.post-84378229331844082272008-04-28T18:30:00.000-04:002008-04-28T18:30:00.000-04:00I'm fairly certain that a class action lawsuit is ...I'm fairly certain that a class action lawsuit is not applicable to a class of defendants, only of plaintiffs.
But seriously, WTF???
